Heaven lives in a perpetual state of worship. Revelation 4 tells us that there are always four creatures flying around the throne of God, and that day and night they never stop saying, “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come.” Every time they say this, 24 Elders that surround the throne fall down before Him, lay their crowns on the ground and say, “You are worthy, our Lord and God…”
Revelation 5 continues by showing the four creatures and the elders falling down and singing before the Lamb of God, and millions of angels singing “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain…” Then every creature in heaven and earth joins in singing to the Lamb of God.
The worship of God never ceases in Heaven. When we sing to God in church, we are merely joining in with something that is already happening – kind of like taking an onramp from the City of Earth onto the Freeway of Heaven.
When I teach worship to preschoolers, I always ask them, “When does the worship stop in Heaven?” They learn to answer, “Never!” It’s an important concept to grasp. We will one day reside in a place where the worship never ceases. The one thing we know we will do in Heaven is worship our Lord. We were made to praise Him.
