“You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” – (Acts 1:8)
Living on mission with Jesus starts right where we’re at – in the city in which we live – and it spreads out from there. At Journey, we are absolutely committed to sharing Jesus with the people of Tacoma and the surrounding “253” in authentic, heart-felt and meaningful ways. Here’s how:
- Mobilizing Believers For Ministry – We aim to equip and encourage every believer to share Jesus in both word and deed with the people in their natural spheres of influence. In terms of mission, this is our first priority. We want to see every follower of Jesus find their God-given place in his great mission of seeking and saving the lost. We believe this will happen most effectively when we learn to love, serve and share intentionally with the friends, neighbors, co-workers and colleagues that God has already placed in our lives. Toward this end, we train believers to be able to share “The Basics of the Faith.”
- Multiplying Community Groups – Not only do our Community Groups provide a place for believers to connect and grow in their faith, they also function as Kingdom “beachheads” and “outposts” through which the light and love of Jesus can be organically shared with people who might never attend our Sunday services. That’s why we look to establish an expanding network of groups that meet in homes, apartments, neighborhoods and coffee shops all over “the 253”. More about Community Groups.
- Giving Hope to the Homeless – Our “Seeds of Hope” ministry aims to equip church members with packs of ‘essential items’ (food, water, personal hygiene items, and an encouraging note) that they can distribute to the homeless men & women commonly found at major intersections and overpasses around town. In so doing, we look to plant seeds of hope in the hurting hearts of Tacoma’s downtrodden.
